Calculations

We are trying to do a merit scoring for students from periods 1 - 8. At the end of the week, every teacher will give a student a merit score. I have a custom page and fields already set up and working. However, I would like to put a total score on the page that adds all the merit scores together automatically. This is so when some one pulls a student up and see his merit scores, they will also see their total and not have to manually calculate them.

Can this be done and how?
