Enhanced Parent Portal

Note: EPP currently does not support PowerTeacher Pro based sections. As a result the scores page page fragments may need to be removed to show assignments correctly.

Districts not utilizing the new pages added via EPP should evaluate if the stock PowerSchool SIS features are sufficient. Starting with PowerSchool 9.2 the core application provides controls to disable functionality which is also honored by the Mobile App. These settings can be found under Start Page > School Setup > Parent/Student Access.

Version 5 released! This update includes 3 major improvements:
1. Localization of all the new pages. Future updates should include other language packs as well.
2. Separation of the Parent Demographic Change files into its own plugin. This will allow you to make modifications to that page without future EPP core updates overwriting your changes
3. Database Extension table created for the demographic modify fields included.

Please install as a plugin even if you plan on using custom/web_root for your files. This will allow the localization tags and db extension to install. You may still install the web_root files within the zip to your custom/web_root if that method of customization is desired.

IMPORTANT - PowerSchool no longer allows students to edit their own student record. Because of this 1x Class Registration ONLY works when logged in as a Guardian. Students will have full Class Registration ability if 1x is enabled. I am unsure of what version this happened in, just fyi.

This is a new Parent Portal with more options for student screens.

Allows a school or district to show or hide icons on the public portal. The solution now cleans up the automatic e-mail page options when those options are hidden from normal view and displays a message when the grade & attendance page is hidden. Incorporates Roger Sprik's customization that allows a student to submit course requests just one time.

Does this plugin work with version 9.2? Now that School has a link in PowerSchool for Parent/Student access, I can't find the link for Parent Portal Settings. I deleted my version 4 of the plugin and installed the latest version, but still can't find the link for the settings. Did I install it incorrectly or does something different need to be done to use with version 9?

It seems that I can only enable the powerschool native Parent Portal options.
I can't see Parent Demographics, Fee's, Balance when allowed under a parent's account.
The checkboxes display correctly though....
The whole U_CLG_EPP_DEMO_CHANGE table is empty. Shouldn't it contain all of the DCID's? The if statements for Parent Demographics check the enabledemoupdate column value but with the table being empty, it doesn't work.
Are there issues with this plugin for Powerschool 9?

Hi, I have the latest version of EPP 5.0.2 Teacher Assignment Comments do not show up in parent portal. Is there a resolution for this?

Thanks
Ann

I can see an option to show fees via /schoolsetup/portals.html but there is no fees file in the guardian portal. Were fees excluded from the latest update?

Today I found the fix, in our case at least but maybe in yours as well:

District mode -> District setup -> Miscellaneous
Make sure that the box to "Do not show the lunch balance on parent/student pages" is UNCHECKED!!

Now, our EPP show/hide fees/balances stuff is working as expected. :)

I do not see the FEE Page in the latest version of EPP - even though the option is available on the Parent Portal Setting page at the district office. Is this Fee Page functionality supposed to be working? Also, how about printing the transcript?
Thank you, Kim

I have removed all of my plugins trying to figure out why the new color scheme was not being applied. I finally starting reinstalling 1 by 1 and everything worked until I hit EPP. That changed everything back to the blue and gave me string key not found for the bulletin.
Anyone have any idea how to fix that?
Thanks.

We found our problem. We had an older CSS in there. Once we removed that, everything worked again.

At the bottom of the plugin information it lists:
7.x: N
8.x: Y
Plugin: Y

Before I try installing this on our hosted 9.2.3 server, I'd like to know that it is expected to work. We are hoping to go online with demographics updates this year and this would certainly save me re-inventing the wheel.
The comments indicate that some people are having problems, I decided it was best to ask in advance!

Don't get me wrong, I have it installed on 9.2.0 and it works, it is just that for some reason, something is causing us to get a string key not found on our bulletin for the calendar widget.

I'll go ahead and install it. I don't plan on using that widget so hopefully we can avoid the string key problem.

This is a great feature the only issue I seem to be having is that the "mark/grade" doesn't show in this tab only the name of the standard is there anyway to get the "mark" to show on this page? or should it be?

We were just upgraded to PS 9.2.3. and am using EPP 9.0.2. When I click on Grade History I get a sting key not found error for the header of each column, i.e. course name, grade, percent, etc. If I disable EPP the scores look fine. Any ideas on how to fix this?

I just upgraded to 9.0.2 and am trying to update the EPP customization, yet am getting "string key was not found!" for everything on my parentdemo.html page. How did you fix this?

Much thanks!!

Pamela M. Lopa

I added the Enhanced Parent Portal Plugin and the Demographics Update Plugin.

For some reason the Demographics Update icon doesn't show up in the parent portal. I have gone into the settings page and enabled it, but it doesn't show up.

Please advise.

Nate

Have you turned on the flag in the student table. U_CLG_EPP.ENABLEDEMOUPDATE

Will there be an update to the Enhanced Parent Portal for 9.2 and above?

Thank you.

HI, love the parent update feature but I would like to add some custom fields to it. I have a number DB extensions that I would like to add.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance

We have the Enhanced Parent Portal loaded and we are seeing String Key Errors on the District setup page and the Portal page. Any ideas?

It is also causing our Registration pages for 16-17 not to work. Once we shut off Customization it works. Thoughts?

As anyone found a resolution to this issue of string key not found. Any help is much appreciated.

Any reason why the Sign On screen message does not work with the customization on the PowerTeacher sign in screen? It works for admin and parents, but the message doesn't appear on the teacher screen. If I turn the EPP off, it works, but with it on, only the admin and student screen messages work. Any ideas on how to fix this? Thanks.

Hi,

Apologies if this is asked and answered elsewhere -- I think search is broken right now.

Our high school guidance department wants rising 10th-12th graders to be able to see their Next Years Schedule in the portal, but they do NOT want rising 9th (current 8th graders in separate middle school) to be able to see theirs yet. Even though I have chosen to suppress that button in the middle school, the 8th graders still see it, presumably because the code is being smart and knows that they have a schedule in a new school for the coming year. I've done a temporary hack to the guardian_header EPP wildcard snippet that says "Don't show this button if grade_level = 8", but I wonder if there is a more elegant way?

Thanks as always! -- MB

I've installed and enabled the plugin via CPM, removed all other customizations to the guardian_header wildcards, and tried all combinations of checked/unchecked for Fees AND Balances on the portal settings page; still cannot get either of Fees or Balances (we only use Fees) to appear in the portal. What am I missing? Thanks, -- MB

I have just installed the EPP and the EPP Demo Modify. I activated both Plugins and am able to see the added icons when I logon as a parent. I do not see any documentation showing how to configure which icons are displayed or where to configure the EPP Demo Modify.
Am I missing something basic?

Thanks,

I installed the EPP and see the controls under District Parent Portal Settings. The Parent Demographics column is not checked but there are no parent demographics icons showing in the portal. Is there something that has to happen before the parent demog appears on the screen?

I have done the same as you, but there is no change.

Hi, I'm having trouble understanding how the plugin displays test results. I created a test in admin, imported results, but don't see them displayed under test results in the parent portal. I'd want them to be under standardized tests, but don't know how I'd specify that.

Also, before I took over, benchmark tests were imported somehow (probably schoolnet) but I don't know which table that data is in, or how EPP pulls and displays it?

Found it. Test Results was from the Schoolnet plugin, NOT EPP, and its distinct from Test Scores, which EPP allowed me to switch on. All is well.

In PS Admin I have "Allow students/parents to select Post-Secondary Plans" turned off but in the Parent Portal, when a parent selects "Graduation Progress" from the nav bar they get the "Post-Secondary Plans Selection" screen. They have to click on "Submit" to proceed to the "Graduation Progress" screen.

Here was the response from Pearson Tech:
I was able to reproduce the issue with that login. The problem is caused by the fact that the "Graduation Progress" link in the toolbar is a customization, and therefore unaffected by the setting at the administrator level. The usual path to that page, Grade History > Graduation Progress, does not display the same behavior. Unfortunately, we do not support the behavior of customizations.

I am not seeing the Parent Demographic Change page and there isn't a "flag" that comes up on the main page like it says.

Hi, Where can I find the documentation on the setup of EPP? I want to turn some features off. Thank you

Found it

I have the newest version installed. Every time I attempt to enable the plugin, I get an error message:

u_dyn_students_1.xml: Cannot remap field Applic_Submitted_Date in non custom field table Students

Any ideas? I looked at my field list and I have an applic_submitted_date field as well as U_Dyn_Students_1.Applic_Submitted_Date, U_Dyn_Students_1.Applic_Submitted_Date01, and U_Dyn_Students_1.Applic_Submitted_Date02!

Help please!!!

I just updated to the newest version and need to re-do this screen. I need to add additional fields foe changing/updating, as well as change some of the verbiage already on the page. I used to go to the parentdemographics.html screen and change it there, but now I see that that their other areas (sorry - not technical enough to know the right term). Example: I need to change the title of "Father's Day Phone" but I don't see where to do that. Instead, I see this code:

([Students]fatherdayphone)

Any help would be SO appreciated.

We recently updated to PS 10.0 and our "link" is broken to the Enhanced Parent Portal settings page since PowerSchool has changed the "canned" pages where the Parent portal settings are. What is the easiest way to correct this?

PS 10.x, EPP 5.0.2 enabled, logged in as a student the Class Score Detail screen only displays 2 assignments even there are many more assignments for that section. Disable the EPP all assignments show as expected. Anyone else notice this?

Which gradebook are you using? I found with PTP there were duplicate lists of assignments and it was hiding the new layout in 10.0.x We ended up deleting the EPP plugin to avoid confusion.

The only one that has been reported is for a PTG section. No other teachers /students have reported anything.

We are on PS 10.0.2 and EPP 5.0.2 and we are struggling to get assignments to show up in the student/parent portal. I have tried disabling the plugin with no luck. Any ideas?
Thanks

We were having the same issue with teachers who are using the new gradebook. We had to go into PS Administrator, clicked on Custom Pages-Admin-Students-scores.html, deleted the custom page and used the original page. That seemed to work for us.

Michelle Krecklow

having trouble with this page as well with not displaying assignments from PT Pro. there's a tlist: sql on the page but I don't know enough sql to see where the problem might be.

I also had to revert the page to the original code to get the grades to show up, but now I have double grades because the teacher was converted to PTP after having assignments in the old Gradebook.
If I go to the portal settings page in our admin area:
/admin/schoolsetup/portals.html
I can turn off score detail, but then there is a message that shows up.
It is too late on this Friday for me to strip the code out, I'm hopeful that an update to the plugin will come that adjusts for the new scores detail coming out of PowerTeacher Pro.

The parent demo option isn't showing up on the parent login side even though it remains unchecked. I can see it on the Admin side. Any ideas on how to fix this? Thank you!!!

If you've previously customized the navigation area (I had) you'll need to revert to the original so that the plugin can do its thing.
Other than that, I'm not sure.

I am having this same issue at one of my schools! Have you found a fix yet?

Nothing yet... and there were no previous modifications to this as we're just starting with Powerschool in this district

The parent demographics piece contains an extra step. Since multiple parents would have access and it's possible parents don't play nice with each other after a separation we felt it was necessary to add a step in that allows you to turn off the feature for parents not playing nice while allowing the feature to exist for everyone else. This field needs to be set for all parents to have access. If someone has abused the privilege then you can turn that individual user off.

To find the field go to a student > Custom Screens > Parent Demo Change and check the box to enable demographic update (it comes with a warning)

To do this for all students:
Select all students you want to enable
Mass change the enabledemoupdate field to 1 (using your mass change method of choice)

As I understand it, this is an amazing free resource provided by the work of volunteers. I'm wondering if updates are stopping or if there are options for support besides this forum?
We're running into issues that made me have to turn off the non-demo part of the plugin for now, I'm now worried about our new reliance on the demo update plugin. I'd be very sad to have to stop using it when we've gotten people one board.

Updates are as we can manage them. There are actually a bunch of updates waiting to be released including one for EPP. not sure what your particular issue is but maybe we are addressing it. You can email info@powerdatasolutions.org and my new role should give me a little more time to respond.

Thank you, Jason. I thought I had emailed, but my email indicates I hadn't.
I'm experiencing the problem that others have had, where the PTG assignments and scores still show for teachers that are now on PTP. Because we haven't switched all of our teachers, I can't just turn off the grade display.
Recently (just noticed today) I also starting getting a lot of "String key not found" messages on the Parent Demo custom screen (including its name on the custom screens page) I haven't had a chance to troubleshoot that at all and plan to restart the server tonight to see if it clears up.
Version 10.0.3.0.1190477

Thank you for this beautiful enhancement, however, email addresses are one important field that we would like to make parents fully responsible to edit and update. I don't see this field as part of that page, can we add it? or do I need to ask for this? Please advise.
