Enhanced Parent Portal

Note: EPP currently does not support PowerTeacher Pro based sections. As a result the scores page page fragments may need to be removed to show assignments correctly.

Districts not utilizing the new pages added via EPP should evaluate if the stock PowerSchool SIS features are sufficient. Starting with PowerSchool 9.2 the core application provides controls to disable functionality which is also honored by the Mobile App. These settings can be found under Start Page > School Setup > Parent/Student Access.

Version 5 released! This update includes 3 major improvements:
1. Localization of all the new pages. Future updates should include other language packs as well.
2. Separation of the Parent Demographic Change files into its own plugin. This will allow you to make modifications to that page without future EPP core updates overwriting your changes
3. Database Extension table created for the demographic modify fields included.

Please install as a plugin even if you plan on using custom/web_root for your files. This will allow the localization tags and db extension to install. You may still install the web_root files within the zip to your custom/web_root if that method of customization is desired.

IMPORTANT - PowerSchool no longer allows students to edit their own student record. Because of this 1x Class Registration ONLY works when logged in as a Guardian. Students will have full Class Registration ability if 1x is enabled. I am unsure of what version this happened in, just fyi.

This is a new Parent Portal with more options for student screens.

Allows a school or district to show or hide icons on the public portal. The solution now cleans up the automatic e-mail page options when those options are hidden from normal view and displays a message when the grade & attendance page is hidden. Incorporates Roger Sprik's customization that allows a student to submit course requests just one time.

That was it! Thanks so much to the team for their work on this. It is fantastic. On to the reports bundle!

I have imported all the screens for this and I do not have any Parent Portal screen to adjust settings, nor do I have a parent demographic screen.

Can anyone help with what I am missing? Thanks

** We figured it out however we can not figure out where to put the code for the notification on the admin\home.html page. Where exactly do you paste the text?
This is what I am talking about: " Courtesy of Dan and tweaked by me: If you want to know when parents have submitted data right from the admin\home.html then you can add the following code;
~[tlist_sql;select CASE WHEN sum(ps_customfields.getstudentscf(id,'parent_verify'))> 0 THEN 'Address Verify' END alink from students where schoolid=~(curschoolid)]~(alink;t)[/tlist_sql]"

The code can be put anywhere on the screen that you want it to be.

Personally I have it below the ~[selectbygrade], gender, and enrollment status search links.

Thanks Dan! That worked for us. Do you happen to know how to add more fields?

I loaded the enhanced parent portal onto our test server to try it out. I loved it so much I loaded it onto our production server. We upgraded to PS7.2.1 and now I do not get the new Data Validation Configuration. I unchecked Customizations and it re-appears. Is the current version of EPP compatible with PS 7.2.1? Do I need to do something else? I would really hate to loose EPP.
Thanks
Michelle

Well I figured it out. The link to Data Validation was missing on the home.html page. I copied it from the original page and dropped it into place and everything works.

I updated to the new EPP and we are running 7.2.1 Powerschool. I was able to get everything to work on my test server. I updated my live server and everything works except the Demographic Verify does not show up on the student pages to click on and approve the changes. I am working with one student so I made sure that enabledemoupdate is set to 1. I can manually type in the page in the url and get to it. Do you have any ideas?

In the PS admin portion check that under School and the Parent Portal Settings the Demographic is set to display for the parents.

When a parents look at the term grades of previous academic year the comments do not show in the comments area...I know they are there I can see them in the admin portion. Did I miss something?

Also...is there a way to allow parents to print report card in the parents portal?

Thank you

installed EPP, turned on SSO, created acct for my grandson so I could see his acct. I can see some of the EPP icons (ie school information and acct preferences) but can't see demographics info. Parent Portal Settings at District and Elem level, "Demographic update" is NOT checked". I even set the First Page Per Day to Demographic Update, but still can't see the demographics page. Checking/unchecking some others (ie fees) will make them appear/disappear. What am I missing?

Please refer to the instructions on how to enable the Demo Update per student.

Thanks Brian, ID TEN T error, i was looking at EPP guide instead of the install PDF. Got it working. Now I'm going to try adding parent email fields for update, our biggest headache.

In the demographics section, I see you have a field for Address under Mother and Mailing Address under Father. Is this causing confusion for anyone? I want to make sure a custom field doesn't need to be created to use this portal. I've been struggling with trying to figure out how to create multiple addresses for split households. Have you had a problem with the mother creates an account, goes in and puts her address information in, then the father creates an account and goes in and changes the information to his address and they are different households?

*****Issue was resolved. Thank you!***

I upgraded to 7.2 over the weekend and enabled CPM. I had previously loaded the EPP using custom web root. I could not see the pages on the admin or parent side. I went into the CPM and migrated the pages and can see it on the parent side, but not on the admin side. I can access it using the URL, but do not see a link under custom page anymore.

*****Issue was resolved. Thank you!***

I just updated to PowerSchool 7.2.2 and installed Enhanced Parent Portal v 3.3.2 I am getting a HTTP 500 error when I click on schools when I try customization off the error goes away. Any idea how I can fix this?

Thank You,
Marige Olinger

Try removing the \admin\schoolsetup\home.html file and adding it back again.

Brian,
Thank You that worked!

Margie

As I was customizing the EPP Parent Demographic Change page, I realized that the field name to make the Approve Button work must be "parent_home_phone" and not just "home_phone." If I add some of our custom fields to this page, how do I make the Approve button work for those fields? Is it as easy as just putting parent_ before each field name?

Thanks.

Patti

When I check mark "Balances" not to show in the parent portal settings it is still showing up when a parent logs in. I have tried check marking numerous others and when I check them they no longer appear. It's just the balance one. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

I got it. I had to check mark both balances and fees.

The balance page shows both the lunch and fee's. So you can disable one section of that page but to fully disable you need to hide both items.

I installed the new version of epp...I used it in the past with now problem..I fiollow the instruction to the letter...

when i log on the parent portal I see no changes..no custom links..
I even renamed the original guardian/home.html to make sure it was getting the custom one and it does..

I have the wild cards copied in the right spot...

Any suggestions?

I can get to the update demographic page if I type in the page name manually..I can make changes...and the changes do appear in the admin portion..and I can save them...

So my question stands..why are the new icons not showing in the portal? They used to
Thank you

I guess my problem is that in the home.html in the guardian folder the wildcards files do not load..therefore only my default icons show on the page...how can I test if they are loading or not...

Andrea

If you are using custom page management or if it's even turned on you'll need to load the wildcards into CPM.

Well I am stumped now. I have the words "address verify" on the start page for admins at our HS but it is always there. I was under the impression that if a parent changed their demographics this would then show.
Also when I enter parent_verify in the search box, I get no students match your entry. I know there is a change because I changed it.

If I call up the student with the change, then go to the custom screens and the parent demo screen, I see the change there and the ability to approve it.

This was working prior to our 7.2.2 update and now it is not.

Where should I look to fix this?

Thanks

I am having the same issue regarding the words not appearing on the home page when a parent submits a change. When I search I see the change and can approve. However it is working for some schools (9 out of 11). I'm not sure what is going on at those 2 schools that it is not working.

Hi, We are using the EPP for a school that uses standards grades. We now have a set of standards that we don't want displayed on the parent portal, but there is no way to limit the terms like you can for the Quick Lookup. There is an enhancement request on PowerSource (https://powersource.pearsonschoolsystems.com/ers/view.action?enhancement...), but I'm hoping that the enhancement is something PDS would consider adding to the EPP in a timely manner (before the end of the school year?!) . Thanks for all you do!!! ... Susan

We are using Custom Page Management so I simply used the Import/Export feature. Very nice. I have one question. I notice that there is now a bulletin2.html (blue icon) right below bulletin.html (white icon). Is that correct? I don't see that with any of the other pages except scores.html (blue) and scores2.html (white), the reverse of bulletin file. Just wondering if there is something more that I need to do.

Yes that file is correct and is used if you set the Bulletin as the first page of the day.

Hi,
I've just installed V 3.2.2 of EPP. I'm using CPM on PS 7.2.1 - Server array - no image server

Read through the documentation and selected a student>custom> do not see demographic update screen

Manually uploaded the images. Compared the files I downloaded with what is actually in the folders in CPM and all are present.
I am seeing 2 JavaScript folders. One is Blue, which I know was inserted by installing the EPP zip folder

Can't see:
1 - custom demo update screen for students
2 - Public portal - no demographic update icon
3 - Set the first screen to demographic update - doesn't work

Is it true that once a folder is in CPM you can't delete it. Compared both JavaScript folders and they are identical.

Should I just delete the original JavaScript folder? Very, very reluctant to do this!

Is this why my parentupdate function is not visible?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Never mind! Figured it out. Had to rebuild custom page links.
However, I can't get the parent demo to be the first page a parent sees. It won't load.

After installing EPP with CPM I get an HTTP 500 error. I have rebuilt the links. Submitted the customizations and tried just about every other relevant hint. What should I be checking to get to the bottom of this? Thanks,
Ben

Now that I think of it we had EPP installed when we were running PS 6 and likely started receiving the error when we migrated to PS 7.2. Does anyone have the old EPP docs that list the files that may be causing the problem in my PS 7 install?

I had closed the portal over the summer and forgot to enable my test students. Just thought of it this morning...great customization BTW!!

I just imported the newest version (V3.3.2.zip) to my test server using PSM as a zip file. It did show success when completed. I have a test account that I logged into but I'm unable to see any pages. It has always worked flawlessly when I've updated before. Is there something I need to do differently with this version? BTW, I'm running the most recent version of PowerSchool as well (V 7.2.3) Thanks for your help,

I just upgraded to V3.3.2 and I'm running PowerSchool version 7.2.3. I opened up the portal today and when a student clicks on their grade, they see no assignments. If they go back to their home page (Grades and Attendance), they can select the hyperlink saying "click here" to get all their assignments for every class to date but it's harder to find a particular assignment this way. I have a screen shot of what it looks like if this helps you understand my dilemma. How can I get all assignments showing within specific classes as well?
Thanks for your help,

Make sure that the Current Grade Setup is correctly defined. Item's such as showing from Historical instead of from Gradebook would make scores not show.

The term we are in is set to teacher Gradebooks within current grade display. Has the new version (V3.3.2) changed to show all assignments only by clicking "click here" on opening page? I notice students can then filter by course name, date due, etc...
I imported the zip file initially. When complaints started coming in, I unzipped the Enhanced Parent Portal and just brought in score.html within the guardian folder but I'm still getting the same thing. Is there anything else I should check or is this how it is now?

Is the final grade setup completed for every term?

yes they are both set up. We run trimesters and I have all three trimester terms (T1, T2, T3) in final grade setup (year long in Y1). The current grade display is setup to view Gradebook while T2 and T3 are setup to view stored historical grades. Current grade is set up for T1. Parent/Student access term I usually don't enter anything since it says leave blank for default but I've added T1 for force T1 and I'm still not getting the assignments per course. Is there something else I can check?

I just found out that students who login with their mobile devices can see the individual assignments per class but if logged in on our lab computers, they can NOT see individual assignments within their classes.

Does looking at the Admin or Teacher quick lookup work? If you have the Portal Setting set to show only Traditional and not Traditional and Standards then the page is showing stock PowerSchool code.

Are all the classes Year Long? If they are then you should be fine, if they aren't then the T1, T2 and T3 need to be added to the individual trimesters as well.

Quick lookup whether logged in as a teacher or admin works as expected. If student logs in on a mobile device, the individual assignments are also there as expected. I have the portal setting as both traditional and standard. We have both year long and trimester courses with the bulk of the courses segmented into trimesters.
The individual assignments are not showing only on parent and student portal when they click on the hyperlink of their running score for that course.
Where do I need to add T1, T2, and T3? If you are talking final grade setups, I have Y1 for year long courses as well as T1, T2, and T3 terms along with their term dates. If you need screenshots I can send them to you...
Thanks for your help,

Is there an error in the logs when a student tries to view the page? You'll have to remove the scores customization or set it to traditional only to resolve your issue. Does the page work at other schools in your district or is this a global issue.

Typically you would do the following for FGS:

2012-2013: T1, T2, T3, Y1
T1: T1
T2: T2
T3: T3

Hi! We just switched over to standards-based grading K-4 and this year have decided not to display any type of numerical/alpha grades; we will only display the standards. I believe that the parent portal is now set up so that they only way parents can view comments is to click on the grade and drill down? I have the Teachers Comments link on the left-hand side of my screen, but it just says there are no comments available at this time. Can I get help with a customization to get that link working? My teachers want to enter subject-specific comments and let the parents have the ability to view the comments online. Any help is greatly appreciated!

Duh! I just double checked my district settings, Parent Portal & the comments boxes for my elementaries were checked to off...no clue why! But now they are showing correctly. I think I read too much into the article I found. Thanks anyway!

Cannot get the Class Registration link to work properly for middle school 8th graders to request freshman high school courses for next year. Their next school is correctly marked as the HS schoolid, their next year grade level is set as 9, PowerScheduler is marked to allow grade 9 to register and Edit Full is chosen for the middle schools and high school in the Parent Portal settings. The current 9th graders at the high school correctly get the 10th grade course request screen. Current 8th graders at one middle school get last year's 12-13 request page and at the other middle school they get just their current schedule. At a loss and any guidance would be appreciated.
